In conventional plastic granulating devices, the plastic strands emerging through the perforated plate of the granulating head are cut by the blades of the cutter head and the cut granules are cooled and discharged by means of water flowing through the granulating casing. Among other things, the cut quality depends on the flatness of the surface of the perforated plate facing the knives, which, however, is subject to wear, so that it is necessary for wear-related maintenance of the perforated plate to grind the cooperating with the knives of the knife head surface of the perforated plate. For this purpose, it is known to replace the cutter head by a grinding device. Coaxial grinding wheels that are coaxial with the cutterhead shaft, however, involve the risk that annular grooves will grind into the perforated plate surface. In order to counter this risk, a grinding device with several grinding wheels has already been proposed (WO 2009/052882 A1), which are freely rotatably mounted at a radial distance from the axis of rotation of the cutter head in a base body fastened to the cutter head shaft and because of this eccentric mounting with respect to the cutter head shaft in addition to the rotation with the knife head shaft experienced a rotation about their own axes, so that the risk of scoring can be excluded. The advantage of not having to see any elaborate drive for the grinding wheels, however, comes with the disadvantage of a non-uniform, dependent on the friction conditions between the grinding wheels and the perforated plate rotation of the grinding wheels.
The invention is therefore an object of the invention to provide a grinding device for the perforated plate of a granulator, which allows a comparatively simple design means an advantageous processing of the perforated plate of the granulating.
Starting from a granulating device of the type described above, the invention achieves the stated object in that the grinding wheels are drive-connected with at least one blade ring acted upon by the water flow in the granulating housing.
Since, according to the invention, the water flow of the water pumped by the granulating housing is used to drive the grinding wheels rotatably mounted in the main body of the grinding device, a simple forced drive for the grinding wheels is ensured so that a corresponding relative speed of the grinding wheels is provided with respect to the perforated plate surface to be processed. After all, it only needs to be provided for the grinding wheels by a blade ring which can be acted upon by the water flow in the granulating housing.
The grinding wheels can be driven independently of each other via a blade ring or a common blade ring. For the independent driving of the grinding wheels they are supported in the body by means of shafts which carry on the side facing away from the grinding wheels each a blade ring. For the common drive of the grinding wheels wear the grinding wheel shafts on the side facing away from the grinding wheels gears, which mesh with a common, coaxial with the cutter head shaft ring gear. In order for the respective blade ring to be acted upon by the flow of water through the granulation housing in a manner that is favorable in terms of flow, a guide device for the water flow can be assigned to the respective blade rings. Due to the design of the blade rings, the flow of water through the granulation and the guide a corresponding drive requirements for the grinding wheels can be provided with the result that particularly favorable grinding conditions for the surface grinding of the perforated plate can be ensured.

According to the embodiment according to FIGS. 1 and 2, the device for granulating plastic comprises a water-flowing part of a granulating 1, which receives in a housing part, not shown for clarity, a granulating head, of which only the perforated plate 2 is shown. The plastic strands emerging from the granulating head through the holes 3 of the perforated plate 2 are cut into granules with the aid of a cutter head, which is cooled and discharged with the water flowing through the granulating casing 1 in the direction of the arrow 4. To drive the cutter head, a cutter head shaft 5 is used, on which instead of the cutter head necessary for granulating the plastic, a grinding device 6 can be mounted in order to grind the surface of the perforated plate 2 facing the cutter head, if necessary.
This grinding device 6 has a rotating test with the cutter head shaft 5 connectable, disk-like base body 7, in which at a radial distance from the cutter head shaft 5 in a uniform circumferential distribution grinding wheels 8 are rotatably mounted. The shafts 9 of the grinding wheels 8 mounted in the base body 7 are provided on the side opposite the grinding wheel 8 with a blade ring 10 in the form of a paddle wheel, which is acted on by the water flow through the granulating housing 1. The individual grinding wheels 8 thus receive a drive independent of the rotation of the cutter head shaft 5 via the blade rings 10 so that the perforated plate 2 to be ground is opposite a relative movement of the grinding wheels 8 from a superposition of the rotary driving of the grinding wheels 8 by the cutter head shaft 5 and the rotation of the grinding wheels 8 adjusts the loading of its blade ring 10 about its axis. In this way, advantageously favorable grinding conditions for surface grinding of the perforated plate 2 can be ensured.
To act on the blade rings 10 for driving the grinding wheels 8 in fluidly favorable manner with the granulating 1 flowing through water, the individual blade rings 10 upstream flow direction 11 can be assigned, which are arranged on the base body 7 of the grinding device 6 and therefore rotate with the cutter head shaft 5.
The embodiment of FIG. 3 differs from the embodiment according to FIGS. 1 and 2 only by the drive of the grinding wheels 8. The grinding wheels 8 are not driven individually, but by means of a common blade ring 10. To this end sit on the shafts 9 of the grinding wheels 8 gears 12, which mesh with a common, freely rotatably mounted on the base body 7 ring gear 13. Since the blade ring 10 is connected in a rotationally fixed manner to the ring gear shaft 5 coaxial with the cutter head shaft 5, the ring gear 13 can rotate relative to the blade head shaft 5 due to the action of the blade ring 10 on the water flowing through the granulating housing 1 and discharging the cut granules. so that all the grinding wheels 8 are driven via the common ring gear 13 at the same peripheral speed in order to ensure a uniform grinding result, when the cutter head shaft 5 is employed instead of the cutter head with the grinding device 6 to the perforated plate 2.
The flow conditions of the blade ring 10 with the water pumped through the granulating 1 can be improved by a guide 11 again. However, the guide 11 may not rotate in this case with the body and is therefore attributable to the Granuliergehäuse.
